Here be the Judging Rules

Step 1: Submit a sample of your song (approximately 1-2 minutes in length) via this website prior to January 10, 2011. We will only accept MP3 files less than 1.5MB.
Step 2: NASA reviews and screens each entry submitted for the contest. Each entry will be judged whether it merits to be preliminarily selected as a finalist at NASA's sole discretion. Each entry:
1. Must be an original work of the author(s).
2. Must include an agreement to the Terms and Conditions for Submission.
3. Must include information needed to contact the author(s) of the song.
4. All entries must be received by NASA before the cutoff date of January 10, 2011.
5. Entries must contain content deemed acceptable by NASA for the contest. The content must not contain defamatory, vulgar, obscene, or other content deemed inappropriate for all ages, as determined by NASA in its sole discretion.
6. Must be submitted in MP3 file format and be no more than 1.5MB in size.
7. Must in some manner relate to or suggest human spaceflight.
Step 3: NASA's criteria and factors in judging songs to be preliminarily selected as finalists include, but will not be limited to:
1. Relation to or suggestiveness of human spaceflight;
2. Catchy or lasting impression of the song;
3. Originality; and
4. Overall quality of the song.
Step 4: NASA contacts the submitters of songs preliminarily selected as finalists by e-mail no later than February 14, 2011.
Step 5: Preliminary finalists are required to submit to NASA a copy of the entire song, printed lyrics (if any), and an original signed copy of the Permission and Release for Use of Song and Related Content, or such other or additional information or documents required by NASA, in order to confirm eligibility for the final round of the contest and/or to perfect rights to the song. Submission of such information or documents must be provided to NASA no later than February 28, 2011.
Step 6: Eligible songs preliminarily selected and subsequently determined to be qualified as finalists for the final round of the contest will be submitted to listening and voting by the public via the SPACE ROCK website. Public voting via the Internet will determine the winners based on the highest number of votes received. Public voting will be open approximately three weeks prior to mission launch, currently scheduled for April 19, 2011.
Step 7: Once public voting is closed, the songs with the most votes will be selected as the winners. NASA will play the top songs selected as winners as part of the Mission Control Center air-to-ground communications during the STS-134 mission.
ADDITIONAL CONTEST RULES
No payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win. Void where prohibited by law.
Employees of NASA and their families are eligible to participate.
A preliminary decision by NASA that a song merits being selected to be a finalist is non-binding, and NASA may later disqualify an entry or an entrant in its sole discretion without liability of any kind.
If the author(s) or owner(s) of the copyright of a song is/are (a) person(s) under the age of 18, such person’s parent or legal guardian will need to sign a Permission and Release or such other documentation required by NASA on such person’s behalf.
NASA shall have no liability relative to the quality of any song posted for listening on the website for the public vote (whether due to technological limitations, malfunction, human, electronic, computer or other error), nor the placement or order of any song posted on the website for public vote. The placement or order of songs posted on the website (including whether or not songs are moved from their initial placement) is at NASA’s sole and absolute discretion.
U.S. Federal law governs this contest for all purposes, including all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these contest rules, or the rights and obligations of an entrant and/or NASA in connection with the contest.
In no event will the U.S. Government be deemed to have waived its sovereign immunity merely by the fact of NASA sponsoring this contest. In no event will the U.S. Government be responsible or liable for any injuries, claims, actions, damages, losses, or liability of any kind, including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, resulting from or arising from participation in, or the production or administration of the contest.
Any attempt by an entrant or any other individual to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should any such attempt be made, NASA and/or the U.S. Government reserves the right to seek remedial action to the fullest extent permitted by law.
