How to Get Your Band’s Song on the Radio


Here's How:

1. Burn your band’s song to CD and create a professional presentation.
2. Attempt to make an appointment with the Music Director or Program Director of the station you want to get your song on.
3. If you get an appointment, be punctual and tell him/her about your band and the song and WHY it would fit with their programming.
4. If you cannot get an appointment with the Music Director or Program Director, mail your presentation.
5. Follow up with a phone call 3-5 days later. If you get voice mail, leave a message. Try again.
6. If your song is a special piece of production such as a parody, humor or even sports-related, bypass all of the above and make contact with that station’s morning show.
7. Morning shows are always looking for material and are more willing than anyone to review something and play it on the air.
8. The easiest way to get to the morning show is to show up one morning with breakfast for them. They will be pleased and more receptive to your pitch.


Tips:

1. When mailing CDs and support material, use Postal Service Flat Rate delivery mailers that appear to be “express” mailers. They cost $3.85 It looks more important.
2. Only present your song(s) to stations where it would fit into the format (exception: parodies, humor, sports-related, etc.)
3. If your band plays locally, obtain testimonials from club owners about the crowds you draw.
4. Have you gotten your CD into any record stores? If so, mention that.
5. Have photos of big events you played? Show them.
