Installation Guide for AMD Graphics Card and Driver
This article lists the conditions that may require installation or reinstallation of an AMD graphics card and/or its driver. The conditions are as follows: New Graphics Card Installation: Install a new graphics card into a new system Upgraded Graphics Card Installation: Uninstall an old graphics card and install a new graphics card into the current system Resolve display issues, performance issues or error messages that occur during/after graphics card installation Update the existing graphics driver to the latest version from AMD.COM Note! Before getting started, identify and record the graphics card model for later reference. Refer to Article GPU-55 for information on how to identify the model of the graphics card. The following information relates to conditions A and B listed above: Check for compatibility of the graphics card with the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard manual to determine compatibility. Check for proper system requirements such as power, bus type and physical dimensions to support the graphics card. Refer to the AMD Products and Technologies webpage to determine the system requirements for the graphics card. Check for the latest service packs/updates for the operating system. Download the latest driver for the graphics card from AMD Graphics Drivers & Software page. Refer to Article GPU-56 for information on how to use the graphics driver download menu Uninstall any existing drivers/software for the previous graphics card if applicable. Refer to Article GPU-57 for detailed instructions on how to uninstall an existing graphics driver. Uninstall the old graphics card. Refer to Article GPU-58 for detailed instructions on how to uninstall the old graphics card Install the new graphics card. Refer to Article GPU-59 for detailed instructions on how to install the new graphics card Install the latest drivers for the graphics card. For detailed instructions on how to install the latest graphics drivers. Refer to Article GPU-33 for a Windows® 7 based system Refer to Article GPU-1 for a Windows Vista® based system Refer to Article GPU-2 for a Windows XP/Windows 2000 based system The following information relates to conditions C and D listed above: Uninstall any existing drivers/software for the previous graphics card if applicable. Refer to Article GPU-57 for detailed instructions on how to uninstall an existing graphics driver. Install the latest drivers for the graphics card. For detailed instructions on how to install the latest graphics drivers. Refer to Article GPU-33 for a Windows 7 based system Refer to Article GPU-1 for a Windows Vista based system Refer to Article GPU-2 for a Windows XP/Windows 2000 based system If you are updating your graphic drivers to the latest. Then you will be uninstalling the old driver and rebooting. Take time to clean the PC before installing the new graphics driver.
