iOS 7. Definitely not the same as iOS 6.

"True simplicity is derived from so much more than just the absence of clutter and ornamentation – it’s about bringing order to complexity," Jony Ive, Apple’s senior vice president of design, said in a press statement. "iOS 7 is a clear representation of these goals. It has a whole new structure that is coherent and applied across the entire system."

In terms of functionality, the biggest upgrade to iOS 7 may be iTunes Radio, a free service that – like Pandora – relies on algorithms to help generate a steady flow of songs. Apple isn't providing this service out of the goodness of its own heart, of course. Wired notes that you can use iTunes Radio to "buy any song directly from iTunes as it’s playing – at the top is a small button urging you to buy the song, and it displays the purchase price."

All of this, of course, is a kind of prelude to the release, later this year, of a new, iOS 7-equipped iPhone. Apple hasn't released any details on its next phone, although smart money says it'll be called the iPhone 5S, and boast basically the same frame as the iPhone 5 (with a whole slew of upgraded innards).

As for iPhone 4, 4S, and 5 users, they'll be able to upgrade to iOS 7 sometime this fall, according to Apple. Ditto for owners of any iPad generation two or above; the iPad mini and or the fifth generation iPod touch.

iOS 8.0 info coming soon

Apple enthusiasts have been poring over the feature list for iOS 8, due out this fall, geeking out over the tighter integration among all iOS devices, the improved mail app and myriad other bells and whistles. But perhaps the most important change is a subtle one hidden beneath the covers that will help prevent much of the tracking of mobile devices that’s done through WiFi hotspots.

One of the key methods that retailers and other companies involved in the massive mobile tracking industry is the collection of MAC addresses of the devices that connect to various WiFi hotspots. Users rarely think twice about connecting to the wireless networks in coffee shops, airports, retail stores and other public spaces, even though there are a lot of security and privacy risks associated with that behavior. Attackers often will use public hotspots as targets for man-in-the-middle attacks that let them intercept users’ traffic. Those networks also can be used to collect detailed information about the devices that connect to them, including the unique device identifiers known as MAC addresses.

Those identifiers typically are static, but in Apple iOS 8 the company is introducing a function that will spoof MAC addresses when a device scans for available WiFi networks. Each device will generate random MAC addresses to be used during scanning and connection, a behavior that will go a long way toward hampering the pervasive device tracking that’s performed as a matter of course by so many retailers and other companies. Retailers typically perform mobile device tracking in order to get a picture of customers’ movements in a store and track their behavior.
The randomization of iOS MAC addresses is a privacy win.

The randomization of iOS MAC addresses is a privacy win, especially for consumers who may not be aware that their devices broadcast a trackable unique identifier to WiFi hotspots or what that information could be used for by retailers and others involved in the tracking industry. But that’s not the only privacy enhancing change that’s included in iOS 8. Apple also is giving users the option of setting Duck Duck Go as the default search engine in Safari.

Duck Duck Go is considered to be the search engine that does the best job of protecting users’ privacy, as it doesn’t collect or store any personal information. It also doesn’t send search terms to the sites that you visit from results pages and it also automatically redirects users to the encrypted versions of sites when they’re available. That function is similar to the functionality of the HTTPS Everywhere extension for desktop browsers.

Sept 17,2014 IOS 8.0 is avail

When it comes to iOS 8 compatibility, Apple requires an iPhone 4S or newer and iPad 2 or newer to update to the latest software.

Only the iPhone 4 is cut from the list.

Both the iPads mini and iPad mini 2 tablets and the forever alone iPod touch 5th generation are also going to work with the new iOS, just like they did with iOS 7. No one besides 2010's iPhone 4 gets left behind.

Apple has released iOS 8, a massive update to its mobile operating system, that includes fixes for more than 40 security vulnerabilities.

Apple is touting iOS 8 as the biggest update to the software since it launched the App Store, and, aside from the security fixes, there are hundreds of new features and functions in the update.

Among the vulnerabilities patched in the new release are a series of kernel flaws, several WebKit bugs and a pair of vulnerabilities that allowed a user to install apps outside of the App Store. But perhaps the most interesting of the bugs killed in iOS 8 is a problem with the way that the OS implemented 802.1x. In some cases, the flaw could enable an attacker to steal a user’s WiFi credentials.

“An attacker could have impersonated a WiFi access point, offered to authenticate with LEAP, broken the MS-CHAPv1 hash, and used the derived credentials to authenticate to the intended access point even if that access point supported stronger authentication methods. This issue was addressed by disabling LEAP by default,” the Apple advisory says.

LEAP (lightweight extensible authentication protocol) is an older authentication protocol developed by Cisco and used for authentication on wireless networks. The protocol has known weaknesses and is susceptible to offline password cracking.

The two app-installation vulnerabilities both were credited to the evad3rs crew, a group that releases jailbreaks for iPhones. One of the bugs is a race condition and the other is a path traversal issue, but both have the effect of allowing a local attacker to install unverified apps. In the Apple ecosystem, that means apps that didn’t come from the App Store.

“A path traversal issue existed in App Installation. A local attacker could have retargeted code signature validation to a bundle different from the one being installed and cause installation of an unverified app. This issue was addressed by detecting and preventing path traversal when determining which code signature to verify,” the Apple advisory says.

Among the other issues fixed is a longstanding problem that caused Bluetooth to be enabled by default whenever iOS was updated. Apple also patched an integer overflow flaw in CoreGraphics that could lead to remote code execution. There also is a fix for a vulnerability that enables a malicious app to bypass kernel ASLR, one of the key exploit mitigations in iOS.

“A malicious application may be able to read kernel pointers, which can be used to bypass kernel address space layout randomization,” Apple said. “An out-of-bounds read issue existed in the handling of an IOHIDFamily function. This issue was addressed through improved bounds checking.”

Two other issues in IOHIDFamily were patched as well, both of which could lead to code execution.

Apple also patched a host of vulnerabilities in both Safari and WebKit. Among the WebKit bugs fixed were 12 memory corruption problems. One of the Safari flaws enables an attacker with a privileged network position to intercept user credentials.

Apples IOS 8.0.2 info

iOS 8.0.2 on Thursday evening, promising to “fix an issue that affected iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who downloaded 8.0.1,” the company said in a statement. The update also “includes improvements and bug fixes originally in iOS 8.0.1. We apologize for inconveniencing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who were impacted by the bug in iOS 8.0.1.”
On Wednesday, the company was forced to pull the 8.0.1 update after 60 minutes of availability, because of user reports that it was disrupting cellular network connections and Touch ID fingerprint scanning on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models. An Apple spokeswoman said that fewer than 40,000 devices were affected by the bug.
The following is Apple’s list of the fixes included in the 8.0.2 release:
  • Fixes an issue in iOS 8.0.1 that impacted cellular network connectivity and Touch ID on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes a bug so HealthKit apps can now be made available on the App Store
  • Addresses an issue where 3rd party keyboards could become deselected when a user enters their passcode
  • Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the Photo Library
  • Improves the reliability of the Reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
  • Fixes an issue that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when receiving SMS/MMS messages
  • Better support of Ask To Buy for Family Sharing for In-App Purchases
  • Fixes an issue where ringtones were sometimes not restored from iCloud backups
  • Fixes a bug that prevented uploading photos and videos from Safari
Apple had previously delayed the introduction of third-party HealthKit-compatible apps to the App Store due to a bug in iOS 8.

IPhone 4 you can take it to the Verizon store where they will port your old IPhone 4 over to IPhone 5C if you have the 8GB version or 5S for 16GB

Verizon upgrade $ for $15 will update your 4 to 5 and then you will have the OS 8.0.2

Please note IPhone 4 and below will not get any updates. This is a huge security risk for anyone using for a company or business.

The only issue will be resetting E-mail Account
Make sure to use ITunes to back up your IPhone 4 before upgrade.

The changes that both Google and Apple have made to their mobile operating systems to encrypt the data on users’ devices have generated praise from the security and privacy communities and vitriol and criticism from the law enforcement and political worlds in equal measure.

The changes to iOS and Android mean that devices running the most recent versions of the operating systems are protected by encryption and can’t be decrypted by Apple or Google. The companies don’t hold the decryption keys and so they don’t have anything to hand over to governments, even with a warrant. This has led some in the law enforcement community to warn that the encryption schemes will make protected smartphones havens for criminal data and hamper criminal investigations.
