If you have installed updates KB2158563 & KB979538
Outlook 2003 will crash

Windows Update error 80070643

Windows Update error 80070643 can happen for several reasons. The most common cause is a problem with the .NET Framework installed on the computer. You might also encounter this error when installing updates for Microsoft Office 2003. If you were installing Microsoft Office 2003 updates when you received the error, follow the instructions in the "Microsoft Office 2003" section below. Otherwise, follow the instructions in the "Windows .NET Framework" section.

The .NET framework is a part of Windows that's used to build, deploy, and run programs and applications. problems. Since multiple programs use the .NET Framework, problems can occur fromhard disk corruption, or faulty program installations that can cause an update to fail.
To repair the .NET Framework automatically

  1. Click this button:
    Fix this problem
  2. In the File Download dialog box, click Run, and then follow the steps in the wizard.
  3. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
  4. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
  5. If any updates are found, click Install updates. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.


If the previous steps didn't fix the problem, you can reinstall the .NET Framework manually, but the steps involved are intended for advanced users. If you're not comfortable performing these steps, ask a friend to help you. You'll find the steps to follow in the reinstalling the .NET Framework article on the Microsoft website.




To fix this problem, you might need to restart the Office Source Engine (OSE) service and try to install the latest updates for Office products again.
To restart the Office Source Engine (OSE) service

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

  1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools.
  2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. If the Office Source Engine service is disabled, double-click it to open the service properties.
  4. Click the Startup type list, click Automatic (Delayed Start), and then click Apply.
  5. Under Service status, click Start.

If the problem persists after you've followed the steps above, go to the Windows Update Support Center website to request support by e‑mail.

More Info about the kb2158563 that is DST add on.

Try working in Outlook safe and check if you are able to work in outlook normally.

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run > Copy and Paste the following command line in the open box and press Enter.

Outlook /safe


  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
  2. Click Advanced Options, and then click COM Add-Ins.
  3. Do any of the following:
    • To enable an add-in, select the check box next to the add-in.
    • If the COM add-in you want is not listed, you need to add it to the Add-ins available list. Click Add, click the add-in (.exe or .dll file) you want, and then click OK.
    • To disable an add-in, clear the check box next to the add-in.
    • To remove an add-in, clear the check box next to the add-in you want to remove, and then click Remove.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
  2. Click Advanced Options, and then click Add-In Manager.
  3. Click Install and then double-click the extension configuration (.ecf) file you want.
  4. Click OK.
To disable an add-in, clear the check box next to the add-in, and then click OK.

If all else fails to fix Office 2003, 2007 and 2010 you will need to uninstall KB2158563

Then go to Bing or Google and paste Update for Windows (KB2158563)

You will need to hide the update, This update has screwed up more computers with office
