Lucas plans ‘Star Wars’ comedy
Lucasfilm Ltd.’s animation unit is working on a TV series based on “the comedic aspects” of the “Star Wars” universe.
The San Francisco business said funnymen Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, who are behind the spoof “Robot Chicken,” will be involved with the new series. “The Star Wars universe is so dense and rich; it’s crazy to think that there aren’t normal, mundane everyday problems in a world so well-defined,” said Green in a press release on Lucasfilm’s starwars.com web site on Monday. “We’re going to pull back the curtain on some of those behind-the-scenes shenanigans,” said Senreich on the site. Lucasfilm hasn’t named the series yet, or said what channel it’s likely to appear on. Jennifer Hill will produce it -- she won awards for “The Backyardigans.” Some news outlets greeted the news skeptically. Entertainment site eonline.com called it “the latest attempt to wring every possible cent out of Star Wars.” Another animated series from George Lucas’ famed franchise, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” plays on the Cartoon Network. Lucasfilm Ltd. is based in the Presidio in San Francisco.
